Zhuhai–Macau Bridge
Opened to the public in October 2018, the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge connects the three Pearl River Delta cities: Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macau (sometimes spelt Macao).
The bridge offers an alternative way to cross between the three cities for as little as RM37.06 *, which were mostly connected by ferry. It’s also largely shortened the drive from Hong Kong to Zhuhai from five hours to 45 minutes.
The bridge comprises 12 kilometres of the Hong Kong Link Road, 29.6 kilometres of the Main Bridge (including a 6.7-kilometre underwater tunnel), and 13.4 kilometres of the Zhuhai Link Road.
Guarding each side of the bridge are three boundary crossing facilities (Hong Kong and Macau, despite being handed over to China, still have a different political system and hence, each has a different border control facility).
Macau has so much to offer travelers of all ages, styles and budgets. This former Portuguese city reflects a mixture of cultural influences and is located just a short one-hour ferry ride from Hong Kong. Its giant casinos and malls on the Cotai Strip have earned Macau the nickname, Las Vegas of Asia.
As home to the largest casino in the world, Macau is a hot tourist destination for gamblers. People will go there for a weekend – or even a week – and never leave the gaming tables. But you don’t have to be a gambler to visit Macau. There’s so much to see that a Macau day trip from Hong Kong is a huge part of many itineraries!
To be honest, you really should spend more than one day in Macau. But if you’ll be staying in Hong Kong for more than a week or two, you should think about spending more time in Macau to take advantage of all it has to offer.
